On the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration and the British conquest of the Land of Israel during the First World War, a ceremony to mark both these historic events was held in Azrikam Forest on November 10th, the very date on which fighting broke out in the region of Kiryat Malachi and Ashdod and culminated in its being wrested from the hands of the Ottoman Turks. Members of the Australian Light Horse Brigade took part in the battle together with British Army soldiers from Scotland and Nepal.
